hey there foodie! yup, really was fun.. :) wished u were here.. take a trip, come over! more than ready to host u! :) hehehehe
my dad loves bitter melon but I haven't yet acquired a taste for it - but my mother is still feeding it to me whenever I'm in Vancouver.
Bak Kut Teh - very intrigued by this dish - I always forget to try it when I'm in Malaysia...not sure whether I would be thrown off by the medicinal taste or not?! Didn't know that they made a veggie version!
actually, i dont really like the strong type of bakuteh.. the ones i use to make at home is the vege type too, coz my housemate is a vegan.. so we use to buy the bakuteh pack and boil in water then add the vege oyster sauce and dump in anything.. hard boil egg, dry tofu, the artficial meat and so on.. i like it mild.. same like u.. not the strong ones..
this one i had was the dry version of bakuteh.. the sambal type they call it.. there's ladies finger, tofu, artificial meat and some vege.. nice, no strong taste of the herbs.. just nice.
i guess u can make it yourself if u can find the herbs.. the ones i buy here are ready packed in a small bag like the tea bag style.. u shud try.. i'll give u the recipe if u want.. the trick is to put lots of oyster sauce n black soy sauce..hehehehe.. drown the herbs.. hahaha... :)
Wow! Those are yummy..
