Hanging out at Trivolly Garden!

After dinner last night the dinky pirates; us!, had thought of hanging out over a couple of drinks (lite ones.. heee..) before heading back home to snuggle to a Korean movie! heee..

The target was: Trivolly garden, which is located in Petrajaya area in Kuching, an exquisite and extraordinary home restaurant which is also a football mania garden i pressume! An outsanding place for hanging out with friends for a few drinks and perhaps some side dish if not a heavy one! The place is fantastic for chats, relaxing, stressing-off and just to have some time off!

I personally like this home restaurant for its grand and unique seatings; with every table set for each football club! Football fans out there, this is your place! Haha! The scenery was extremely inviting for all ages! I like it! Check it out..

Trivolly Garden

They had an OHP.. easy for the eyes.. haha..

D'Airiz Cafe : Thai Cuisine

The dinky pirates strikes again and this time the target was D'Airiz Cafe, a Thai Cuisine serving cafe.. Actually Loveholic_2485 and me didn't actually realized that the place was a thai cuisine.. hehehe..

We had something simple that last night coz the setting wasn't really inviting the thai complexicity into moi stomach.. haha.. we ordered plain rice, fried prawn in seasoned flour and seafood clear soup (as they named it). The soup was very spicy and had a tomyam taste to it and in all, it was ok. for drinks we had fresh orange and longan juice. Affordable at the price of rm35 for two. Other list on the menu that had my attention was the fried rice and others which were all listed for two.. (everything seemed to be listed for two at this cafe.. i wonder..).. hmmm.. enjoy the pix.. (was down with a flu.. not many pix were taken.. :) )..

Sarawak Regatta - 1st to 3rd Aug 2008

(Sarawak regatta's official logo @ www.sarawakregatta.com)

A brief history of Sarawak Regatta:
Reported by the Sarawak Regatta Committee 2008, that the Regatta had started as early as before 1872 and was recognized as an annual event, which took place every New Year. It was held at the Sarawak River at the Kuching waterfront, in front of the Astana (at present, the ADUN building which is still in progress..). During that period, the European community in Sarawak and other neighboring countries were invited to the Astana, for breakfast, just before the race. Being a multicultural state, all races/community are invited to join in the regatta, therefore, a wide variety of cultural significance is shown during that very day. Ranging from the Chinese's 'Dragon Boat' to the Malay's 'Perahu Balok', you name it! :) There are also others; The Melanau's traditional boats, Orang Ulu's 'Haruk Adang Usung Tingang' Boat, Bidayuh's 'Arud Diak/Tikura' and the Ibans 'Perahu Bidar'....

I will be there for sure! Join in the fun as the event this year will start on the 1st of August and ending on the 3rd. There are 12 categories for the event, ranging from a 7 men paddler to 30 men paddler or a mix of men and women. Registration fees are included as well.

Be there! The event will blast off on the 1st of August at 230pm to 545pm with a 15minute intervals for each race, a total of 14 races will be held on the first day.

On the Second day, races will commence at 830am and ending at 11am, just in time for the Opening event to start. After the break, from 1 to 145pm, races will commence again till 515pm.

On the third day, events will presume at 9am, with a short break at 1130am. The finale of the regatta will start from 2pm onwards.

What are you waiting for? Come on, join in the fun..

Rehearsal @ practice before the real thing, note the ADUN building, not completed yet...

Sarawak crafts.. For sale, order... Anyone?

Here, i'd like to post about Sarawak's craft, being half Kenyah, it gives me great pleasure to be able to promote my mom's culture especially in crafts.., Kenyah's or also universally recognised as the Orang Ulu's (concludes all; Kenyah, Kayan, Kelabit, Berawan, Kiput, Penan, etc) craftwork especially in beadwork. Do feel free to inquire about any of this, i am though planning a small business in mind to gain some extra cash for myself and my studies. Please show some support, thanking all of you in advance!

Here is a pic or two of my lovely friend from Switzerland, Anja Schneiter, with a Kenyah's traditional costume designed by my mom and aunt, all beadwork, from head to toe..

Mum is getting her readily equipped with Kenyah's beadery.. hehe..

Anyone? Anyone interested? Hahaha..Please contact me if so.. (for the crafts of course.. the gal's off limits of course!! haha)

All beadwork, isn't she a beauty? Hee.. She almost looks like she's a Kenyah.. haha..

Me and mum... Love her so dearly.. :)

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans

I kinda like all kinds of movies, im a big fan of vampires and such (thanks to my elder brother of course..).. Lame me managed to get this about Underworld 3! Im sure all of you out there knew bout the return, i just had to add this to my collection of movies.. :) so that i could add a review once i've seen it!

Refreshing your memory..
The ending of Underworld 2 was with the blood that was flowing into the third tomb in the mansion, Amelia's tomb.. u know, after the whole story of Selene and Corvinus 's love wrap and them managing to kill Marcus and William (the master vamps, the elders..).. Now, I'm more interested in whether both Selene and Corvinus managed to combine powers with the werewolves or wat?? im hoping that it'll be in this 3rd one.. but as u would read on in the summary, the story has changed its pace to shine on the Lycans instead.. . hmm...

Summary: The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

My point of view:
Its said to be out in 2009 once the filming starts in January! Hope it's any good, coz they had put away the main cast of the show.. no more Selene.. no more Kate Beckinsale...i seriously can't agree enough.. Kate Beckinsale as Selene must be in the show, 2 series of the movie had her in it.. how could they.. hmmphh! But there is a reason tho, Selene aka Kate Beckinsale was 600 years old in the previous two movies (according to the Book of Prequels) an dthis third movie was set back 100 years before she was born, the rise of the Lycans, the war of the werewolves and im guessing they will explain more on the death of Viktor's daughter whom he killed with extreme regret because she was in love with the heir of the Lycans, Lestat... But it aint the same without her.. hmmm...

Kuih Gelang to Kuih Donat to Big Apple and Dunkin’ Donuts???

I wasn’t really a big fan of donuts or ‘doughnuts’ but many persuade me to have a bite at dunkin’ donuts, big apple and whatsoever.. the only donuts I had always liked were the classic white sugary topping donuts..

Or the old fashioned types, the ones our mums used to make , or the ones exactly like when the donut boy would come around from house to house, shouting out loud ‘Kuih Gelang! Kuih Gelang!’ and when it was a few years after my primary school life, other donut boys came by, but then they shouted out ‘Kuih Donat! Kuih Donat!’.. and now.. ‘you want Dunkin’ Donut arr? I buy for you okay? I go KL next week..’.. hahahha.. but now, there’s no need to worry.. we have Big Apple Donut at the Spring.. in Kuching… and so.. the tasting began..

Mira212 and Loveholic_2485 was determined to try yet another adventure to feast our tummies… (I bet after a few episodes of food hunt.. you readers out there would be forced to read about my -how-to-lose-weight-FAST- articles!! ^smiles^)..

My number one (NUMBER ONE) recommendation is THE ALIEN!!!! Chocolate IN and Chocolate OUT! Yummy!!!!! We had the cheese donut and the cappuccino donut and also the mango turf donut.. (eww… not nice la.. heheheh.. it was not all that eww.. just too sweet..) but the ALIEN was nice because the chocolate was rich and dark, not too sweet, just nice.

(I still favor mama’s donuts or kuih gelang or kuih donat.. heheh.. or maybe mama can make her donut somewhat like the alien? Hehe.. ok, fine, the alien was fan-delicious-tastic!!).

feast yee eyes..

Big apple...

tada!!!

heaven....

yummie!!! choc in, choc out!!

Ever been to Kopi O’ Corner?

Kopi O’ Corner has been around for years and I’ve just got the chance to document my drop-by there.. haha.. the food was OK.. not great but OK, but I do like the scenery tho.. it was my first time and I wasn’t really impressed by the slightly burnt rice (I think they accidentally burnt the rice bottom when they had it cooked before making my fried rice..). But who am I to complain, they had made an effort to serve my ‘perut kosong’ and I should be glad that they had it done quickly.. and now hoping that (^_^) next time I set foot there, the dish would be much better..

As usual, the team of mira212 and loveholic_2485 was on the verge of looking for food to satisfy our empty stomachs.. I had ‘nasi goreng ayam masak seafood’ with ‘bandung pink lady’ and she had ‘nasi goreng pattaya’ and iced lemon tea. The pictures speaks for themselves and I must say, the pictures looks more delicious than the taste. Im not saying that I don’t recommend the place, maybe they just had a bad day of burnt white rice.. ^smiles^… the lunch was affordable, rm14 for two..

Kopi-O Corner...

The grand seatings.. Nice..

Nice eh?

I spotted this on the wall..among other collections..

Ever Been to Idola Café?

The food was delicious, I may want to say that it is not flagged as one of my favourites but I did, indeeeeeed savour the taste of the fried flat noodle (‘kueh tiaw goreng’).. yummy! You can really taste all the seasonings they fried with the noodle!

Mira212 and Loveholic_2485 goes on the food hunt again.. the target this time is Idola Café. I had the ‘kueh tiaw goreng seafood’ with ‘teh-c peng’ and she had ‘nasi ayam’ (chicken rice) and ‘limau mantak’ (lime juice). Rm14 for two…
Pictures are for you…

My Guide to Eating Out .. (Malay food)!

What I do I look forward to when eating out?
(Especially in Malay restaurants –affordable ones too!)

1. Try the soup!!
- Malay cooking is very famous for its rich taste in a lot of spices (and so does Indian food), but I may say that Malays are well known for their soups; spice soups, oxtail soups, beef soups, chicken soups and even tomyams (‘sup bunjut’, ‘sup ekor’, sup daging’, ‘sup ayam’ and even ‘sup tomyam’). The rich Malay spices (‘cengkih’, ‘kayu manis’ and etc) really makes the soup delicious and it goes easy on the stomach.

My favourites are still ‘Sup daging and nasi putih’ at Warung 2000 (Samarahan area) – I consider the soup as all spiced up and delicious!! Next favoured is the ‘Sup Raja’ at Ayam Penyet Lot Wan (masjid area in Kuching town) for the large amount of beef served and the spicy soup as well! No one is yet to beat both soups for the time being…
>>((less than rm8 per person excluding drinks))<<

2.Try the set meals..
- I call these dishes ‘set meals’ because they come in a set. For example; chicken rice or fried chicken rice or fried beef rice or fried noodle, fried seafood noodle and yeah, the list goes on…

So far, my favourites are dried chilly squids with rice and fried ‘belacan’ rice at Oten’s and Butter Chicken Rice at Tun Jugah. But usually I get tired of set meals and usually order a plate of plain rice and just soup (refer to no. 1). >>((rm6 per person excluding drinks))<<
3. Try the dish meals…
- The dish meals are such as fried chicken that you can order in a quarter sets, or half a chicken and so forth, or you can even order fried fern tips (‘pucuk paku’ or ‘midin’) or sweet and sour chicken and etc..

For this I recommend, Muslim Seafood at Topspot (Taman Letak Kereta @ Car Park Garden), try out the Seafood TomYam, Mix Vegetables with Japanese Tofu and the Butter Prawns. Same dishes goes for Barouk (across the river at Boyan Villlage)!! Nice!! The price is VERY affordable and if you get dish servings for two, I guarantee satisfaction, what more if you went in a group.. (However, be careful of the food service at Barouk when it gets crowdy, the service gets lousy..).
>>((food and drinks for two is around rm30))<<

4. Try various styles of drinks…
-You’ve gotta believe me when I say the Malays make a whole lot of weird drinks..

The classic drink is always ‘Teh tarik’ or directly translated as ‘pull tea’ haha! It actually means that the tea is pull-dunk several times till you get a foamy layer on the top, that’s why it’s called ‘Teh tarik’!

Second, I suggest, a classic Bandung (which sometimes is served in pink or red and with tiny sago jellies). Others are neslo (Nescafe and milo) or other drinks which you can also have them pull-dunk for.. such as ‘milo tarik’, ‘kopi tarik’, ‘neslo tarik’ and etc.. >>((all drinks are less than rm3 per person))<<
~enjoy~

What Should Be Done?

Have you ever felt that...,

Sometimes.....
You'll feel like you're abandoned..
You'll feel like you're alone..
You just dont know what to do, it's like you're lost...
It's like a moment, you can't seemed to forget..
It just dont last a day, or a week, or a month..
It goes on.. and on and on...
Like the shattered sky..?
Like the splash of water..?
Like a broken wing..?
Like a sudden tear..?
Like a cold chill in the night..?
Why? What? Where?
Who? How? When?
Everything is altered..
Dispositioned...
Not one soul could say or make a difference..
Not for me..
Even the closest person on earth cant break me down,
no, not one soul for me...
Not in this life time...
I dont expect anyone to understand me,
not a slime, not a stone like me,
not me...
This is how i feel,
or how i felt,
or how i'm feeling..
now, before? in the near future?
Unpolished, unsharpened, untamed..
Bewildered by my ownself,
I assume, I acknowledge, I try..
Was it real? or was it just my fantasy?
This is me..

Ever been to KWALI?

At first, when I saw that the restaurant was named “KWALI” (a modern spelling as pronounced for KUA-LI), I was pretty sure that this store was really promoting the sense of a Malaysian tinge! A wok a.k.a kuali! As determined to complete one of my little quest in Kuching which is trying out all sorts of food, or dish i managed to find, so I went on my journey with my lovable buddy, nicknamed loveholic_2485 to KWALI! today!! (She’s a great accomplice when I’m trying new things.. up and away with my adventures!!!)

We had the Bryani Rice with Beef Rendang and Mee Kolok… drinks were green apple yoghurt and iced lemon tea! For both orders we paid, RM19 which was quite affordable for two, trust me, it was worth it.

look at that.. fooh.. delicious...

nyum.. nyum..

adding the green apple yoghurt i had, top that with the rice, yum! just nice!

introducing mee kolok, ordered by loveholic_2485 (she's a fan of mee kolok, laksa.. anythin noodly!!) oh ya, dat's her hand!!! heeee...low profile bah!!

nyaman sik?? fooh.. the iced lemon tea and green apple yoghurt.. divine to my taste buds!!

see.... sedap bahhh!!!! nice!! sedap gilerrrrRRRrrr!

I’ve gotta tell you, it was the bomb.. great place to eat and hang out as well. Located at Tabuan, near the Unaco+Golden Dragon area, don’t worry, you’ll find it, its near the main road, with the logo of a wok. Attached is the pictures. Enjoy and I do hope u enjoy the food!

~enjoy!!~

Rainforest World Music Festival, then and now, 2008

When I first came to Kuching for my studies, I was intrigued by the RWMF banner that was posted near my faculty and oh yeah I was in for sure.. no excuse at all.. the ticket price back then was about rm60 per day, but now it shot up to rm90 per day.. a fren of mine working with the media told me that it’s to limit the ‘type’ of audience we might have, u know, the type that would crash the party hard without an invitation. At the same time, its to look after the rep n image!

The line up performers were from everywhere; I fell in love with the Te Vaka’s from New Zealand, the Tammora’s, Les Yeux Noir from France, Black Umfolosi with the boot dance!! Wow!! I just can say no more! You’d have to go for yourself to enjoy the whole thing!

This year, the event is from the 11th to 13th July, price ticket rm90 per day and its at the same place as it was held every year, the Santubong Cultural Village. Be there to enjoy it or you are gonna seriously miss out. Trust me you would want to go.

With an event like this, I thought to myself that every year would be such a great year coz, during this time, I could DE-STRESS! Dance n music, what more can I ask for?? Foooh.. I couldn’t ask for more coz this is just what I need. Usually, people would get all motivated and ready for the year during the new years with loads of promises and new resolution for the new year.. mine? Everything lil damn thing I wish for the year would go well after I DE-STRESS.. heeeee…..

I was at The Spring, shopping yesterday night and I noticed that a few of the RWMF 2008 performers were there for a small sneak peak & preview! I was in time to catch a few pictures of them, and if you think you’re not sure you want to spend on this event, look at the crowd! (and mind me for saying this, its just the crowd in a shopping mall, that’s not even the whole thing yet! At the cultural village itself, they’ve put aside a darn good dance floor! (the whole ground is for you dance). Trust me! You’d love it!

look at the crowd, man.. you're gonna love it. Im gonna post more soon, Im joining the second day slot ,the Saturday night LIVE!! :) see you there! wait up for my pictures ya!

The Wonders of Teh-C Peng

Some say teh-c peng (‘peng’ means cold or iced) is a drink of less sugar cos it uses ideal milk (u know the less pekat (not thick) type.. not the condensed milk.. the eveaporated ones..).. so it supposed to be better to drink coz.. less sugar!!! But to me, the more evolved the drink has become, there is more taste to it than just sweetness….

Introducing the wonders of teh-c peng

  1. The first ever was the ordinary tea and milk (condensed and sweetened).. just milk tea.. but then milk tea was also transformed into BUBBLE TEA MILK, PEARL MILK TEA (with pearl.. sago balls).. and etc.. ordinary milk tea was the bomb but now.. introducing……teh-c peng.

  1. The first time I came across teh-c peng was when one of my fren Mel introduced me the drink at 7th Mile.. oh yeah..it was the best.. the taste of evap. milk and tea was just ideal.. (‘berlemak-lemak’ = creamy!) creamy and not too sweet. Just nice though.

  1. The second wonder was the three layer type! Teh-c peng special 3 layer! (tea + evap. milk + gula apong/gula Melaka (brown sugar syrup from nipah palm) nyum! nyum! This was better than number 2 coz the taste was overwhelmed by the brown sugar.

  1. But then, when I had this one; teh-c peng 4 layer; combination of tea, evap. milk, brown sugar and pandan syrup. This was a maniac mix! Nice.. I would recommend this coz of the delightful taste of the pandan blending in with the brown sugar. But be aware that not everyone love the taste of pandan, if you can’t stand the taste pandan, than, check this out off your list baboons.. Well, but still, this is and always will be my favourite.

Well, that’s about all the teh-c peng I have ever tried in most coffee shops and restaurants but.. then came yesterday.. when we were at Food Avenue! Wow… damn, I was surprised! There is actually another two addition of teh-c peng!!

  1. Teh-c peng 5 layer: tea + evap. milk + brown sugar syrup + pandan syrup + cincau (grass jelly). This was nice.. (but im stil sticking to number 4!).

  1. Teh-c peng 6 layer (this I yet to discover!!!!)

So this is how the story of how milk tea was revolutionized.. haha..

Food avenue is a great place to ‘lepak’ (hang out), there are loads of food there (non-muslim food), but still the place is great for drinks, a plus is the super sized projected screen.

**** Owh, by the way… Some say that the-c peng was also invented in the malay version.. TEH DANGDUT!! (dangdut = local malay dance… the sexy2 type) (cos of the way the layers shake.. like dangdut shake.. hahahaha)

-Frens of mine, fancy them? Boleh Jual ke? haha-

.During my uni life, i had loads of frens, whacky ones, nerdy ones, famous glam-da-slam ones.. and so forth.. but, once we were done wit our studies and had to move on, whoaa.. i really miss them, a lot, a whole damn lot. well, currently, im stuck here in the uni again, furthering on with my studies.. and fortunately for me, a few of my old frens are still here, in addition to the circle, new frens were made as well..

.this year, 2008, i'm seriously not letting the year pass me by, i wanna make it clear that the years in my life is not as important as the life in my years. introducing the gang here, and trust me, they will always be wit me thruout the year!

first prize goes to.... Mr. Mordiez de Gonzales.. -whacky, weird,'sot', nerdy?-NOT, fun to be with, eats more than he knows it, tries to diet...-

second goes to... Nasa....whom i always call Nasaresssss

-Nasa is the most expressed person i've known, very intelligent in many ways, and he is n the top for the freedom of speech and for really believing in wat he believes in, eats a lot too (another fact i like bout him!haha!), claims to diet all the time! heeee..

third.. the holy one (this gal is off limits.. she's the angel type...if u know wat i mean), Ms. Aileen...

-always with her beliefs, i dont blame her for that, its what she believes in for goodness sake! hehe, she's a pure bidayuh.. stickin to her adats.., simple minded, humble as a bumble bee-

oOOOooohh, this addition is serious! the ever lovely JacQ, the queen of the queen, one hot MAMA!!-Jacq- you've gotta bliv me, she's one of a kind, u'd just feel so damn comfy around her, if i was a guy, i wouldnt let go! she's whacky, adorable in many ways, makes u laugh even when she's not making a joke.. gosh.. she's one of a kind!-

introducing Ms. Ollince.. or some may call her orleans.. haha!
-Orleans- always wins her way, gets what she wants, 'kenjet',whacky n has a mind of her own, slim to the bones.. great figure (at least for me..)-
Next one up is Melinda Alexandria Crocker.. or better known as Mel, well, this is one tight gal here..
-you wouldnt believe what she's like.. gosh.. she's whackier than any whackies out there, she's the type that love to lounge around, oh yeah, and any gentlemen out there?? she'd luv one.. she's a spark tho! u'd have to win her real good if u want her real bad!-
